Objectives

Evaluate different joint supplements and their ingredients.

Understand how to positively affect unhealthy joints and soft tissue with herbal supplements.

Discuss other treatments available to aid our patients with mobility challenges.

Description

Joint supplements containing glucosamine and chondroitin in combination with NSIADs have long been the standard of care for arthritis and animals with decreased mobility. The purpose of this lecture is to review other oral nutrition and supplements that can be used to reduce inflammation and improve joint health as well as promising newer research for natural supplements that may improve pain. Finally, we will begin discussion on alternatives such as therapeutic laser and Adequan injections for mobility.

Agenda

  • Review of glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM
  • Discussion of omega fatty acids as well as therapeutic diets containing omega fatty acids
  • Introduction of other natural substances with anti‑inflammatory and antioxidant properties including research to support their use
  • Importance of finding correct location and tissue to determine proper treatment for mobility
